Trevor Lawrence brought with him his Clemson Tigers to face the LSU Tigers. Both teams came in undefeated, the best defense (LSU) against the best offense (Clemson)  The LSU Tigers won the toss and deferred the ball until the second half.  Clemson’s first play of the game was a trick play that LSU sniffed out.  The next play Clemson went deep to the right sideline for 35 yars.  Lawrence and the Tigers came out ready and completed three straight passes.  LSU settled in and were able to sack Trevor Lawrence to force a fg, however Clemson took an intentional delay of game to punt the ball.

LSU’s first possession started deep in their own territory (7 yard line).  The first play was a long pass that was called back due to an illegal man down field.  The ball was pushed back to the LSU three yard line.  On third and long LSU attempted a quick screen and were push back almost creating a safety.  LSU had to punt the ball away.

Clemson struck pay dirt first as Trevor Lawrence ran to the right side.  Clemson 7 LSU 0.  6:34 left in the 1st quarter.

LSU struck back with a 4 play 70 yard 1:36 second drive of their own.  J. Chase caught a 52 yard TD pass.  Clemson 7 LSU 7.


The Clemson Tigers were able to get in field goal position after a couple good plays by T. Lawrence.  Porter connected on a 52 yard fg.  Clemson 10 LSU 7

Clemson stretched their lead after pulling off a reverse run to Tee Higgins, 36 yard scamper down the left side line.  Clemson 17 LSU 7 10:38 left in the second quarter.

LSU was able to punch it as Heisman winning QB J. Burrow scored on a 3 yd run. 9:17 left in the 1st half. Clemson 17 LSU 14

Each quarterback had scoring TD runs at that point.

The LSU Tigers seemed to get their offense going late in the 2nd quarter as they were able to drive 6 plays 87 yards in 2:03.  J. Chase on the right side again 19 yard TD.  J Chase had 5 rec 147 yards 2TDs in the game at that point.  Clemson 17 LSU 21

The LSU Tigers were able to go 11 plays 95 yards in 3:28 to put 7 more points on the board.  Thaddeus Moss scored on a 6 yard TD reception with :10 left in the first half.  Clemson 17 LSU 28

End of 1st Half

LSU received the ball to start the 2nd half but were unable to put anything together.  During the half Burrow came out early to warm up on the bike.  The word was they he may have gotten the wind knocked out of him and was favoring his ribs.

Clemson’s star running back Travis Etienne scored on a 3 yard TD run at the 10:49 mark in the 3rd quarter, Clemson then decided to go for 2, Lawrence completed the 2 point conversion passing to Amari Rodgers.  Clemson 25 LSU 28.

Clemson suffered a big loss as James Skalski was ejected from the game for targeting.

On the very next play Joe Burrow completed a 4 yard TD pass to TE Thaddeus Moss on the left sideline.  His second TD of the game.  Clemson 25 LSU 35 5:13 left in 3rd Quarter.

The only score in the 4th quarter was another Joe Burrow pass, this time to Terrace Marshall Jr for 24 yards, an 8 play 57 yard drive that sealed the game. Clemson 25 LSU 42

Trevor Lawrence did not have one of his better games as he was trying to make something happen committed the first TO of the game (fumble).  Victory formation was had by the new National Champions LSU TIGERS!
